SIT: Bask in the Mesmerising Soundscapes of Max Richter.

If the name Max Richter doesn’t immediately ring a bell, his most famous composition, On the Nature of Daylight, likely will. The evocative piece has underscored emotional moments in many movies and TV shows, from the tear-jerking montage at the end of Arrival to the heart-wrenching third episode of The Last of Us. But Richter’s influence extends far beyond this iconic track. His genre-blurring works have redefined contemporary classical music, earning him a place among the greats. In exciting news for Melburnians, he’ll be touring Australia next February, performing a suite of new material with the American Contemporary Music Ensemble.

Performing at some of Australia’s most iconic venues, including the Sydney Opera House and Hamer Hall, Max Richter’s tour will highlight his ninth studio album, In a Landscape. This deeply emotive work is a poignant reflection on optimism and the human experience, blending classical instrumentation with electronic textures and field recordings. It is a record about reconciling polarities, bringing together the electronic and the acoustic, the human and the natural world, the big questions of life and the quiet pleasures of living – a fleeting self-portrait of a musician in constant motion.
