APPRECIATE: A Bizarre Doomsday Bunker in Las Vegas.

Owning an underground bunker is fast becoming the ultimate symbol of status, with billionaires across the globe parading their opulent, apocalypse-proof retreats. It begs the questions – has subterranean living become the new penthouse view? This eccentric Las Vegas bunker makes a strong case for it! Set beneath a seemingly ordinary residence, the lavish underground home, which sold for a whopping $18 million in 2020, feels like something off the set of a 70s sitcom. Originally designed by millionaire Jerry Henderson in 1978, the 1,400 sqm mini-resort is able to accomodate a small community, featuring five bedrooms, six bathrooms, two hot tubs, a swimming pool, putting green, dance floor and various other party-ready amenities. Don’t tempt us with a good time!

Beyond the party paraphernalia, the bunker is engineered for serious apocalypse resistance and survival. Its equipped with air-conditioning, a 4,000 litre water tank, reliable phone reception, and Wi-Fi, all complemented by feature lighting that simulates different times of day. Artificial trees and faux rocks enhance the illusion of normalcy, while lifelike murals depicting views from around the world help alleviate any sense of claustrophobia. Currently, the bunker is owned by the Church of Perpetual Life, an organisation dedicated to extending human life and cryogenically freezing bodies for future revival when science permits. Only in the good old U.S. of A!
